On August 11, 2021, Mary Ann Ruiz discussed various topics affecting condominium unit owners at a Condo Rights Workshop in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, titled “In the Aftermath of the Champlain Towers South Collapse.” The workshop was hosted by Sunny Isles Beach City Commissioner Dana Goldman.
Ms. Ruiz was joined by co-panelist, Robert H. Yaffe, and discussed topics such as property management, reserve funds, inspection and maintenance issues, board certifications, insurance considerations, and receivership. Participants gained clarification on existing and new Florida Statutes, as well as a better understanding of what to look for in their condominium documents and how to protect their interests moving forward. In the wake of the recent condominium collapse in Surfside, Florida, these topics are more relevant now than ever.
To better accommodate our community, the hybrid workshop was conducted both in person and electronically over the Zoom platform in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Also in attendance virtually was City of Aventura Mayor Enid Weisman.
